Project X

My piece for Project X (produce an illustration for an article). Done on Photoshop CS5.

I chose “Poetry’s digital frontier” for New Scientist. This concept was about how poetry has found its way from the traditional printed pages to digital media.

I was supposed to do “Think like a designer” for TGW but it was harder than I thought to make a visual concept for kerning. I know what it is, but it’s quite difficult to find a metaphorical idea for it.

In the end, I just gave up, but here’s at least the sketches for it:

My friends in Graphic Design will probably have a good laugh, but I figured adjusting the tie was somewhat related to kerning (as in tweaking small details etc). I wasn’t satisfied with the composition, so it was scrapped.

This one is more about “nudging” yourself to fit into the different roles of work, homestay and love in the pursuit of happiness. It was partially inspired by the Kerning game. The composition here was a bit strange and messy and no matter what I did I just couldn’t arrange it the way I wanted in my mind. Urgh, I bitterly had to give it up.

All in all, it was a fun assignment! I’ve been experimenting with my style for a bit, trying out a more “flat” style and and limited colour-palette which is also quite fun!
